Mastitis

Mastitis is the animal disease that causes greatest loss to milk production worldwide. The disease costs the dairy industry in Norway 245 million NOK/year and upwards of USD 2 billion/year in the United States. Similarly, Listeriosis due to the animals ingestion of low quality ensilage contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, may lead to huge economic losses due to loss of infected production animals and retraction of contaminated food.
